Choos3n Yourself
Generation Chosen targets black youth living within the Jane & Finch area. We aid in the support of taboo topics such as mental health and emotional intelligence. These topics are often avoided and disregarded as being separate from who we are as black people. Social norms often dictate the way in which black youth are both views on a macro level, how they are views on a more micro internal level.
This years theme of Be You, Be Well coincidences perfectly with what Generation Chosen Hopes to accomplish in regard to normalizing topics of mental health and emotional intelligence. Allowing black youth the space and grace to be themselves are acknowledge their feelings as real honest things we believe will lead to a brighter future and healthier communities. For Black Mental Health Week Generation Chosen will reach out to our community and extend a hand to join us to speak with specialists in the field of mental health along with members of the community with diverse backgrounds. We at Generation Chosen also believe that events such as these should be informative and filled with growth, however this does not mean that they cannot be fun. Gamifying learning is something we make common practice with our youth and we have found great success in doing so. We hope to continue this by renting a space that will suit our needs along with having prizes to give back to the community and gather youth so that they may learn from the event. Our goal is to help reduce the taboo around the topic by cultivating a safe, and inclusive space where people feel they are allowed to be venerable with one another.
